So it's been a while since I've posted. You would think for an INFJ this would be the ideal forum to express my deepest thoughts and desires. But I also want to talk about random stuff that may only interest me...until I can come up with said random thing, here's a thought:
Something that was said tonight provoked some thought...it's interesting that Christ came in the form of a baby when He could have just appeared as a full grown man. Obviously, there's theological reasons why He came the way He did. But, it's fascinating to think that He would be willing to experience life as a human from the very beginning. There's a sense of awe and wonder in that; something I often lack because of the familiarity with the 'Christmas Story'.

I'm back...
Ever invest in something, trying to make sure you don't get your hopes up, but that something (inevitably) doesn't pan out, and you feel like you got suckered punch? And then you realize you did in fact get your hopes up? And the funny thing is that you are more upset about getting your hopes up than the thing not actually panning out? Good times....

6 Months
To be honest, I didn't think I would last this long when this whole crazy experiment started. My intention was to make it out here, but I guess I left room for failure. The other night, a friend asked me if I was happy here. I found that kind of hard to answer. To a certain degree, I'm better off here than I was in So Cal. For one, I have a stable job with a potential future. And I enjoy not having to drive. My social network is definitely in need of assistance, but that's kinda been the case ever since I left San Diego. Overall though, things have plateaued, as my friend Mike would say. We were talking last week and we both agreed that the novelty of moving to a new area has worn off. Occasionally, I experience my "wow, I can't believe I moved 3,000 miles and I succeeded" moments while in the subway or walking the streets of downtown Boston. But, I guess I'm getting to that "what now?" phase. So I don't know if I can quantify my time in Boston in terms of happiness. I'd like to think that the experience of being here will somehow have an impact down the road. In any event, I can't deny that I'm supposed to be here right now.

I want some JAM!!!
So, I'm starting to get settled into Boston. And it only took me 4 months! I live with some great roommates, I've gotten involved with a great church, and I actually kinda enjoy my job. Well, it keeps me busy, which is a huge upgrade from my last one...Plus, we are moving to a new location next week and our cubicles have sliding doors!! So stoked about that. Actually, in all seriousness, since I moved here, I've just been in awe of the Lord's faithfulness. I mean, I literally came to Boston with two suitcases. I honestly didn't think I would make it. But God has done above and beyond what I even asked or thought...

I did it...
I did something I told myself I would never do. I bought a bed. There's no bailing out now...

Remember Number Munchers?

That was a fun game. It made learning fun. That and Oregon Trail got me through elementary school.
So, as you know, I'll be in Boston indefinitely. How long is indefinite? Only God knows. I'm just playing it by ear. In the meantime, I'm working at a publishing company. Hopefully, I'll find my niche there...

New post!
My dad came to visit this weekend. It was good seeing him. After seeing my room, he suggested we go to IKEA. Even though I've started to settle here, I'm kind of avoiding making a major investment (i.e. buying a bed). I know I can't sleep on an air matress forever, but it works for now.

Today's Video
This is what people in Boston do when they are waiting for the subway. My only regret is that I didn't catch the first 2 minutes...

Lunch @ Google

So today I had a temp assignment at Google...yes, Google. It's everything you imagined...gameroom with video game systems, fooseball table, and a pinball machine. A personal chef that makes breakfast and lunch for all the employees (for free). Little refridgators scattered across the office, filled with soda and juice (for free). Bouncy balls, bean bag chairs, and swag for all the employees (Google fleeces, Google keychains, Google baby clothes, Google kites). Yes, if you can think of the perfect company to work for, it would be Google.

Crunch time
Well, in the next 22 days I need to have a full-time job and a place to live. What happens if that doesn't happen? It'll be interesting to say the least. To be honest, I've been struggling with keeping a balance in my job search. On one hand, I need to have a job so I can focus on finding an apartment. At the same time, I don't want to just get a job for the sake of getting one. Am I being selective and waiting for the right position to come along? Or am I just being too picky? I have no doubt I could get a job at the local paper company and have a stable source of income, but how long would I stay there before something better came along?I guess, I'm kind of tired of making so many transitions at this point.
Of course, if said paper company was anything like the one protrayed in The Office, then sign me up...

Lakers-Celtics
So I went to the game tonight. Kobe was pretty sic. People actually chanted "M-V-P" and "KOBE"...in Boston...Red Auerbach must be rolling in his grave.

I ran out of material
It's been a couple of weeks since I last updated my 3 readers. A couple of highlights:
- I went ice skating for the first time at the Frog Ponds in Boston Common. I haven't even roller skating sine Middle School.
- It hit below zero (with the wind chill) last week. It wasn't that bad actually.
- I went to a crepe party last night. Better quality that the ones available at IHOP.
Overall, hard to believe I've been here 4 weeks! The next couple of weeks will be busy as I look for housing and that little thing called a job.

Public Relations and Infectious Diseases
Those were my first two job assignments. I'm actually work as a temp until something more stable turns up. But in the meantime, it should be interesting going to a different job site everyday.
One good thing about living in Boston is that I'm experiencing things I would have never done otherwise. Example: Hearing a Bluegrass version of a Journey song.

Why would you want to leave California?
I've actually had some people ask me this question. They kind of look at me as if I'm crazy. It's funny how some people have this notion of California being a land of flowing with milk and honey; where there's a movie star on every corner and everyone goes to the beach with their lattes. And while 75 degree weather in January is nice, I kind of need to see how the other side lives. Some people live and die by a specific flavor of ice cream. Mine's strawberry. I always order strawberry. It's my vanilla. But you can't have it everyday. So I guess Boston is my cookies n' cream.
On a more serious note...I've been adjusting well here. El Niño has provided abnormally warmer weather that is freaking out the locals. I'd like to think I brought some of the So Cal weather here. Anyway, until I get a job, I probably will feel more like a resident than just a visitor. Speaking of which, my job search is progressing. The staffing agency I'm going through actually works with a lot of the local universities and non-profits. I have an interview today so hopefully that goes well. Ok, until next time...

The Ivy-League's finest...
So I went to my first Division I-A College Basketball game: Harvard vs. Dartmouth. It was an away game so we made a trip to New Hampshire with someone Mike and I just met last night at a Folk Music Concert. Our new friend Maria wanted us to go because she was taking a hard-core Harvard Basketball fan as a favor. After we picked up the starting point guard's older brother at the airport (he flew from LA to see him play), we made the 2 hour trip. We had dinner at a place called Inspired Burritos because the entire town of Dartmouth shuts down at 6PM on a Saturday night. Sadly, the Harvard Crimson blew a double-digit lead and lost in OT. You probably won't find highlights on Sportscenter. True story...

On the second day of the new year...
A few observations:
1) Boise State-Oklahoma: No words to describe it. I almost cried. The bad thing about living on the East Coast is that a lot of games end at like midnight or as in the case last night, close to 1AM. Alas, it seems my beloved Lakers will be playing most of their nationally televised games at 10:30PM.
2) Outlet stores are the best, Specifically, the Eddie Bauer store. I pretty much completed my winter wardrobe. Is it ok for a guy to admit he has a wardrobe?
3) I was supposed to meet with the staffing agency today but had to reschedule because I think Isprained my knee pulled a muscle. Note: never dance on New Year's with snow/ice shoes. Or at least don't try jumping up and down a lot.
Well, I look forward to getting this New Year up and running. I hope everyone has a great 2007.
