My first post...

So I figured it would be appropriate to start this blog with how in the world I ended up going to Boston. I've given some people bits and pieces, but here's the story:
So back in March, my roommate Matt and I were looking for a third roommate. One day Matt gets a call from a guy who saw our post on the web. Apparently, he had just moved from London after a stint in Houston, TX. He moved back to Nor Cal but was bored so he decided to move to Orange County on a whim. He seemed like a cool guy, so we gave him the room. Fast forward to the end of the summer...
So Mike (the new roommate) meets a random girl at a taping of the Jimmy Kimmel show. They start talking and she tells him about her job. Apparently, all she does is travel the country and trains clients on financial software. The company is based out of the Boston area and she encourages Mike to apply. During all this, I'd been working at UC Irvine as a temp and just waiting for a permanent position to open up. One day, Mike throws out the crazy notion I should move out there if he gets the job. I kind of dismissed the idea at first until the company calls him for an interview. He flys out there and pretty much aces the interview. They informally offer him the position, So he moves out and goes back to Sacramento to tie up loose ends before making the move back east. He plans to move to Boston in November, and the idea was that I would crash with him once he gets settled in come January. Well, November comes around and he gets a rejection letter from the company. Apparently, there was an internal candidate from one of the other branches relocating to the Boston office. So at this point, hopes and dreams are shattered. Still, I kind had the itch to go regardless of what happened. So after much prayer and thought, I decided to take a chance and just do it. My first challenge was finding a place to live. After going through craigslists and finding little to no success, my old roommate mentioned he had a friend in Boston. It turns out that she and her roommate are dental school students and were going back home for the winter. She offered her place for the winter, so I called Mike and we decided to take it. The great thing is that the apartment is two blocks away from Fenway park! Now granted, we only have the place for 2 months and baseball season doesn't start until April, but still...
So that's story. I think I've been too comfortable here in Orange County and that's led to complacency in a lot ways. I've never had an opportunity to do something like this and it might as well be now before I get older. I look forward to the challenge and hopefully growing in a lot of ways. So stay tuned...
